Miller and Griffin Obtain “Not Guilty” Verdict in Statutory Rape Case
settingsHazlehurst, Georgia: In July 2024, attorneys J. Travis Griffin and P. MacKenzie Miller obtained an acquittal in a statutory rape case pending in Jeff Davis County Superior Court. Mr. Griffin and Mrs. Miller convinced the jury that sex between the alleged victim and the Defendant never occurred at all, and the jury found the Defendant not guilty on all counts.
A 15-year-old young woman alleged that she had consensual sex on graduation night with an 18-year-old who graduated the year before. After months of the young woman boasting about it to her friends, her parents heard about the alleged sex and called law enforcement. The Defendant was charged with statutory rape and child molestation.
At trial, Mr. Griffin cross examined the alleged victim, her witnesses, and law enforcement witnesses about the allegation and investigation. Mrs. Miller presented the defense case, presenting an alibi defense through nine witnesses that, between them, were with the Defendant that whole night and into the next day.
After a five-day trial, the jury found the Defendant not guilty on all counts.
